Request an estimateWhy is my upstairs so hot, and will more insulation fix it?
Home insulation in Tallahassee means adding insulation to your attic, walls or floors so the house holds the cool air you pay for, and the attic is usually the easiest and cheapest place to get the most out of it.
Most calls start the same way. The upstairs won't cool down, the room over the garage is miserable by July, or the power bill keeps creeping up even though nobody touched the thermostat. Usually it comes back to the attic, either because there isn't much left up there or because air is slipping past what there is, which is why most jobs start with attic insulation. The price moves with the size of the attic, how many inches are already up there, how many gaps need sealing and whether there's a leak or damage to deal with first. The schedule turns on how easy your attic is to get into, what we find once we're up there and whether the job needs a permit. Your own number comes from the estimate, after I've been up there and seen it.
How we handle home insulation, start to finish
I start in the attic because that's usually where a house is easiest to improve, and the first thing I look for isn't how many inches are up there but where air is getting through. The usual spots are around can lights, plumbing pipes, the attic hatch and the tops of interior walls, and our crew air-seals those, closing every gap before any insulation goes down, because there's no sense putting a quilt on the bed with the barn door open. Then we top up with blown-in insulation, loose fill sent through a hose, building the depth evenly all the way to the edges instead of piling it in the middle, and we keep the eave vents clear so the attic can still breathe. If your heat and air equipment sits up there, I'll explain the different ways to handle it. Foam costs more and seals air while it insulates, so it mostly earns its price when the ductwork lives in the attic, and otherwise sealing the gaps and topping up the loose fill usually wins.
Some houses need more than the attic. If the floors are cold and there's a crawl space under the house, crawl space insulation is the next place I'd look, as long as it's dry down there first. If what's in the attic is soaked from an old roof leak or full of droppings, I'll show you, and we'll talk about insulation removal before anything new goes on top, because covering a problem doesn't fix it.
What changes home insulation work in Tallahassee
Permits start with whether your house sits inside the city limits. Inside them, the City of Tallahassee's Growth Management Department issues the permits for building, renovating or expanding a structure, and whether an attic top-up needs one isn't something I'll guess at. We check your address, check with the office that covers it and handle the permit paperwork when the job needs one.
Around here the heat does most of the damage. A lot of the houses we see have the ductwork and air handler up in the attic, which on a summer afternoon is about the hottest room you own, and plenty of older houses still have a thin layer that's settled flat over the years. The humidity is the other half of it, so I watch the eave vents and the crawl space closely, because a buried vent or a damp crawl space ends up as moisture in the framing. We see the same houses and the same problems on jobs in Bradfordville and Quincy.
Why call us for home insulation
I come out and check it
I look at the job myself and write the estimate, our own crew does the install, and I check the work before we call it done. You're not handed off to a stranger halfway through.
Doing this work since 2017
I learned insulation on other people's crews and started this business in 2017. That's how I know where the gaps hide and where coverage usually runs thin.
Covered while we're up there
We're licensed and insured. That matters when a crew is walking the joists over your living room.
Priced against the City grant
If you're a City of Tallahassee electric customer, I'll tell you at the estimate whether your job fits the City's ceiling insulation grant and price that version alongside anything else. It's your money, and you should know which option the City will help with.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my attic needs more insulation?
Measure it, and if there's less than about 6 to 7 inches up there, your house could likely use more. Push a ruler down into it in a few spots away from the hatch, where it's usually been packed flat. Give me that number when you call, and I'll check it again at the estimate.
Is blown-in insulation better than batts for an attic?
For most attics, yes. National energy guidance says blowing in loose fill such as fiberglass, rock wool or cellulose usually costs less than batts and covers better, though installed costs vary. That's what we usually use on a top-up, after the gaps are sealed.
How much does home insulation cost in Tallahassee, and can the City help pay?
Topping up a typical 1,800-square-foot attic with blown fiberglass plus air sealing usually runs about $2,500 to $4,000 a job across Florida. If you're a City of Tallahassee electric customer in an owned or rented house or a duplex up to a fourplex, the City's ceiling insulation grant can cover part of the installed cost, up to $400. Your own number depends on your attic, and you get it at the free estimate.
What does the Tallahassee ceiling insulation grant cover?
It covers blown fiberglass and loose-fill cellulose only, and it needs a City energy audit before the work starts. Foam, rock wool, batts and radiant barrier don't qualify, and only contractors on the City's approved list can take part, so ask any contractor you're considering about that list. The City's ceiling insulation grant page has the full, current terms, so read it before you book.
How do I insulate an attic when the air conditioner is up there?
Get a price on two approaches, because building research shows that moving the insulation and air seal up to the underside of the roof has particularly large advantages over sealing the attic floor and ducts when the heating and cooling equipment lives in the attic. That route usually means foam, which costs more and falls outside the grant. I'll lay out both and tell you which one I'd pick for your house.
How long does a City of Tallahassee energy audit take?
It usually takes 45 minutes to 3 hours, depending on how big the house is. The City's auditor looks at your insulation, ductwork and other items, then goes over the findings with you. If you're after the grant, the audit has to come before we install, so it's worth booking early.
