Request an estimateShould I add insulation to the walls of my Tallahassee house?
Wall insulation in Tallahassee fills the hollow spaces inside your outside walls, usually by blowing insulation in through small holes, so the rooms along those walls hold their temperature and your air conditioner isn't working against an empty wall.
Most calls start with one room. It's the bedroom along an outside wall that won't cool down, or a wall that feels warm when you put your hand on it, and the power bill keeps creeping up even after the attic insulation got done. A lot of older houses have little or nothing inside those walls. The price moves with how much outside wall there is, what's on the outside of it, which side we drill from and whether the siding check turns up repairs. The schedule mostly turns on those repairs and on whether you'd rather wait for new siding. I'll look at the house in person and go over what I found before you get a number.
How we handle wall insulation
I start outside, because the siding tells me more than the drywall does. Peeling paint, soft boards or stains below the windows mean water's getting in somewhere, and that gets fixed before we fill anything, since insulation over a leak just hides it. Then I'll tell you plainly whether filling the walls is worth doing now or makes more sense when the siding gets replaced. When it's a go, we open a few spots to see what's already in there, seal the gaps we can reach, fill each stud bay, the space between two studs, packed tight so it isn't left to settle, and close every hole back up. I check the walls before we call it done and walk you through what we did and why.
Insulation slows heat, but air slipping through gaps around outlets, windows and the bottom of the wall walks right past it, so a lot of wall jobs pair well with air sealing services, where we close those gaps first. If your house sits over a basement, basement insulation deals with the cold floors above it, which the wall work won't touch.
Wall insulation permits and houses in Tallahassee
Tallahassee's Building Inspection Division issues the permits for building, renovating or adding on, and the city's permit list names alterations but doesn't mention wall insulation by name, so that list alone doesn't settle whether your job needs one. If your house sits outside the city limits, the permit comes from Leon County Development Services instead. We find out which side of the line your address is on, check with that office, and handle the permit paperwork when the job needs one.
A lot of what we fill around here is older frame houses with lap siding and next to nothing in the walls, plus some brick. Additions and the room over the garage were often built later and insulated differently from the rest of the house, so I check those walls on their own. We see the same mix on jobs in Bradfordville and Quincy.
Why call us for wall insulation
I write the estimate myself
I come out to look at your walls myself and write the estimate, so the person pricing the job is the one who saw your siding. Our own crew does the install, and I check the work before we call it done.
Running this business since 2017
I learned insulation on other people's crews, then started this business in 2017. I grew up on a farm where you fixed what broke yourself, and I still think what's underneath matters more than what goes on top.

Frequently asked questions
How much does wall insulation cost in Tallahassee?
Blown-in wall insulation usually costs about $4 to $4.50 per square foot across the US. That's a national figure for blown-in work, not our price, and your house can land differently once the amount of wall, what's on the outside and any siding repairs are counted. I'll give you a number after I've looked at your walls in person.
What is the best way to insulate existing walls?
For walls that are already closed up, sealing the gaps and blowing loose fill in tight is usually the best value, because spray foam is typically the most expensive way to insulate a wall that's already built. Foam does seal air while it insulates, so if someone quotes you foam, ask for a second price on another method and compare the two.
Can insulation go into my walls without tearing them open?
Yes, in most houses. Dense-pack, where insulation is blown tightly into each closed cavity, goes in through small holes that can be cut from the outside or the inside, so it's fair to ask any crew which side they'll work from. Inside, the holes get patched or covered with chair rail, a strip of trim along the wall, and you can pick whichever suits each room.
Should moisture problems be fixed before insulating walls?
Yes. The siding on an existing house should be checked for peeling paint and other signs of moisture first, since insulation alone may not solve them. If repairs are needed, plan for that work and its cost alongside the insulation, and I'll tell you what I found before you decide.
Should I insulate my walls now or wait until I replace my siding?
If new siding is already on the calendar, do them together. With the old siding off, the walls are bare and open, so insulating and air sealing them is easiest and least expensive at that point. If the siding has plenty of years left, filling the walls through small holes now usually makes more sense than waiting.
What causes one room to stay hot along an outside wall?
Usually it's an outside wall with little or no insulation in it, or old insulation that's slumped to the bottom of the cavity, and air leaking around outlets and windows makes it worse. I can usually tell which it is by checking a cavity or two at the estimate.

Air sealing services
If the house still feels drafty after insulation, closing the leaks around outlets, pipes and the attic hatch is often the cheaper fix to try first.
Basement insulation
Cold floors and a damp chill downstairs usually come from below, and insulating the basement walls goes after that directly.
